Automating Tasks
Excel is very good at processing data, and with tools like Power Query and VBA those processes can be automated. If you have data in one format and need it in another format, Excel is brilliant. If you need to repeat that processing more than once, then setting up some automated processes can save you a lot of time.

Automation of monthly report to employees
Each month the user can select “Send Emails” and the monthly report is automatically generated for each employee and emailed to them. See here for more information.
Calculator
My clients often have a calculation that needs repeating, sometimes many times per day. Rather than reaching for a calculator a customised spreadsheet increases accuracy in multiple ways. This sort of spreadsheet is useful for preparing quotes, calculating costs, or as below, working out a drug dose.
Drug Dose Calculator
This sheet calculates a drug dose based on patient information. This is designed to not look like a spreadsheet and is unbreakable, the user can’t accidentally mess things up. Great for users who are not confident with spreadsheets. There are fail safes built into the calculations that default to “Contact the Pharmacy Department” if figures are outside certain ranges. Excel is good at presenting data so that decision making can be based on actual data that is clearly presented.
Dashboard
This is a dashboard of KPIs. Colours are dynamic so change as the values change to aid visually being able to see if targets have been met. See here for more information.
